How to Customize Buttons by Source Device
Because different devices (like cable/satellite set-top box, media player, or Blu-ray players) utilize different remote functions, button customizations (with the exception of the blue J button) are managed per source device.
To customize your remote buttons:
- Navigate to Hub Settings: From the app home screen, tap the gear icon (⚙️) on the card for the room you wish to adjust.
- Open Remote Customizations: Select Remote Customizations under the General menu.
- Locate Your Source Device: Scroll down to the Button Customizations section, where buttons are organized under headers for each connected device.
- Select a Button to Adjust: Tap the card for any listed button to change its behavior.
Helpful Tips:
- Customized Badge: When a button's default behavior is modified, a blue Customized badge appears on its card so you can easily identify changed settings at a glance.
- Resetting Customizations: If at least one button has been altered for a source device, a Reset customizations option appears at the bottom of that device's section. Tap this to restore all buttons for that specific device back to their original defaults.
Customization Options
Available customization options vary depending on the button and the function(s) mapped to it on a specific source device.
Standard Buttons
Standard buttons can only be set to Enable (default) or Disable. Disabling a button prevents accidental presses by making it completely inactive for that source device.

Grouped Buttons
Grouped buttons can only be enabled or disabled as a collective unit. Buttons within these groups cannot be toggled individually.
- D-pad: Controls Left, Right, Up, Down arrows and the OK/Select button together.
- Number Pad: Controls digits 0 through 9 together.
The Guide Button
The Guide button offers unique customization options because it can be integrated directly with Favoritesasd. Configuration consists of two settings: Favorites Behavior and Guide Button Behavior.
Note: The option you select under Favorites Behavior determines which choices appear under Guide Button Behavior.
- Favorites Behavior: The following options are available:
- Don't show Favorites:
- Behavior: Pressing Guide sends the native command assigned to the active source device (e.g., opening the Roku home screen or cable guide).
- Guide Button Behavior Options: Enable Guide or Disable Guide.
- Show Channel Favorites:
- Behavior: Pressing Guide shows a menu on the TV where you can select and tune directly to a channel favorite.
- Prerequisites: Requires a configured cable/satellite set-top box with at least one channel favorite saved.
- Guide Button Behavior Options: Choose to Show or Hide the native set-top box guide command alongside your channel favorites on the menu.
- Show App Favorites:
- Behavior: Pressing Guide shows a menu on the TV where you can select and tune directly to an app favorite.
- Prerequisites: Requires a configured Roku with at least one app favorite saved.
- Guide Button Behavior Options: Choose to Show or Hide the native Roku Home command alongside your app favorites.
- Show Channel & App Favorites:
- Behavior: Pressing Guide shows a menu on the TV where you can select and tune directly to both channel and app favorites.
- Prerequisites: Requires both a set-top box and a Roku configured, with at least one channel favorite and one app favorite saved.
- Guide Button Behavior Options: Choose to Show or Hide the active source device's native guide command alongside the combined favorites list.
Multi-Function Buttons
Some original equipment remotes (like cable or satellite boxes) have more physical buttons than the JubileeTV voice remote. To ensure you don't lose access to any features, the More and Menu buttons on the JubileeTV remote sometimes act as multi-function buttons that nest multiple original remote actions into a single key.
When the More or Menu button has multiple functions assigned to it, the following button customizations are available:
- Show Overlay Menu (Default): Pressing More or Menu opens an on-screen TV menu displaying all assigned functions. The TV user can then highlight and select the exact command they want to send.
- Send Single Command: Pressing More or Menu instantly sends one specific command directly without opening a menu.
- Setting up: Choose your preferred command from the provided dropdown menu in the app.
- Note: Assigning a single command makes all other mapped functions for that button inaccessible using the JubileeTV remote.
- Disable: Pressing More or Menu performs no action.
Fast Forward and Rewind
Certain source device remotes include separate buttons for Fast Forward / Skip Forward and Rewind / Skip Back. Because the JubileeTV voice remote features dedicated Fast Forward and Rewind keys, configuration options depend on the original remote's capabilities:
- Standard Devices (Fast Forward / Rewind Only): If the original remote only has two playback direction keys, you can set each button to Enable (default) or Disable.
- Dual-Function Devices (Fast Forward, Skip Forward, Rewind & Skip Back): If the original remote features all four functions, you can select which specific command each JubileeTV button sends:
- Fast Forward Button: Assign to Fast Forward, Skip Forward, or Disable.
- Rewind Button: Assign to Rewind, Skip Back, or Disable.
J (JubileeTV Home Screen)
The blue J button can be disabled by going to TV Interface SettingsTV Interface Settings and toggling off JubileeTV Home Screen Access.
Note: This is a system-level setting and is applied across all JubileeTV consoles.
How Customizations Affect Telescope
The on-screen controls in the TelescopeTelescope app mirror your physical remote customizations. If a button is disabled, it becomes inactive on both the physical JubileeTV remote and the main Telescope interface. This ensures that the App User and the TV End User share the exact same simplified experience.
Accessing Hidden Functions (All Controls) Even if you disable a button to simplify the physical remote, you may still need to use that function as an Admin. You can access every original source device command at any time by tapping the All Controls button within Telescope. This brings up a complete list of all functions available for the active source device.
