Updating Roku Device Setting to Accommodate for Roku Update

5min

Issue

In late November 2024, Roku released an update to their device's software that could interfere with the ability for you to use the JubileeTV remote or Telescope to navigate and control your Roku device. This update will gradually be applied to every Roku device. There is a good chance that the update hasn't been applied to your device as of now, but it will eventually be applied.

JubileeTV recommends that you complete the below steps as soon as possible. If your Roku device receives the software update, you will have to use the original Roku device remote and won't be able to use the JubileeTV remote or Telescope.

Resolution & Steps

The resolution for this issue is straightforward and requires you to adjust a setting in the Roku device settings.

The "Control by mobile apps" setting on Roku must be set to Permissive or Enabled. Depending on the Roku software version that you have, you will see a variety of options to select. Please select either Permissive or Enabled. Either of those choices will allow you to continue to use your Roku with JubileeTV.

Please complete the below steps using the JubileeTV remote or Telescope.

FAQs

Why did this happen and why do I need to do this?

Device manufacturers (such as Roku) often release updates to the software that runs on their devices. JubileeTV monitors these updates and, most of the time, no action is required by you to maintain the expected performance of JubileeTV. In this case, an action is required by you.

What is happening when I change this Roku setting?

JubileeTV connects to your Roku device over IP (meaning: JubileeTV connects to your Roku over your local home network). This method of connecting to your Roku allows you to take advantage of the benefits of using Roku as a source device with JubileeTV.

By changing the "Control by mobile apps" setting, you are maintaining JubileeTV's ability to connect to your Roku.

I am confused and need some help. What should I do?
