TV Usage

Overview
The TV End User interacts with the JubileeTV remote and the JubileeTV Console to make their TV watching experience as seamless as possible.
Home Screen
It all starts with the JubileeTV Home Screen. On the Home Screen, the TV End User has the option to "watch TV" (i.e. use their source devices) or interact with the features of JubileeTV.
Below is an overview of the tiles on the Home Screen:
Tile | Description |
|---|---|
Source Device Name | Depending on the number of source devices connected, 1 to 3 of these tiles appear in the top row. Simply select a tile to switch to that device. |
Favorites | All channel and app Favorites that have been added by or for the TV End User appear here. |
Contacts | The Contacts tile lists all of the Contacts that have been invited to use JubileeTV with the TV End User. Within this tile is where the TV End User can send/see messages and start a video call with Contacts. |
Weather | The Weather tile shows the current and forecasted weather for the zip code/city where the JubileeTV Console is installed. |
Photos | The Photos tile shows all of the photos that have been sent to the TV End User from Contacts. |
Videos | The Videos tile shows all of the videos that have been sent to the TV End user from Contacts. |
Voice Control
The JubileeTV remote is equipped with voice control. By simply pressing and holding the large, orange microphone button on the remote, the TV End User can control the TV and source devices with words and not button presses.
Below are some examples of voice commands that can be used:
Command | Notes |
|---|---|
"Volume up" "Volume down" | Turns the volume up/down by 1 click |
"Mute" | Mutes the TV speakers |
"channel 3" | Tunes to the channel number for a cable/satellite set-top box. Any channel number can be used. |
"CNN" "HGTV" "TBS" "NBC" | Tunes to the channel name on the cable/satellite set-top box. Any channel name can be used. |
"Roku" "DVD player" | Switches the source device to show the requested one. |
"Contacts" "Weather" "Photos" "Videos" | Loads the associated JubileeTV feature on the TV. For example, saying "Photos" will show all of the photos that have been sent to the TV End User by Contacts |
"Slideshow" "Screensaver" | Starts a slideshow of all of the Photos that have been sent to the TV End User |
"Netflix" "Amazon Prime Video" "Hulu" | Loads the named app on Roku. Note that a Roku must be configured as a source device for this to work. |
"Play" "Pause" | Plays or pauses recordings (e.g., from DVR) and streaming content. Compatibility depends on the source device and app. |
Customizing the TV Experience
To ensure the best experience for the TV End User, Primary Admins and Contact Admins can tailor the JubileeTV interface and functionality. These customizations allow you to balance ease of use with access to advanced features.
Usage Mode
During the initial setup, the Primary Admin selects a Usage Mode based on the TV End User’s comfort level with technology. These modes define the core way the TV End User interacts with the system and range from Interactive Mode (the full suite of JubileeTV features) to Passive Mode with Original Remote (the TV End User's TV experience remains the same as it was prior to purchasing JubileeTV). See JubileeTV Usage ModesUsage Modes for more information.
TV Interface Settings
Configure whether features like messaging are available and what permissions the TV End User has. For instance, adjust whether the TV End User can make outbound calls. See TV Interface SettingsTV Interface Settings for more information.
Limitations
JubileeTV is designed to manage devices connected through its console, meaning it has limited direct control over the television itself.
- Direct TV Commands: JubileeTV only sends Power (on/off) and Volume (up/down/mute) commands directly to your TV.
- Source Device Commands: All other controls—such as the directional pad (up/down/left/right/OK/Select), channel changes, and playback buttons—are sent exclusively to the source devices connected to your TV via the JubileeTV Console (e.g., cable/satellite set-top box, Roku, Apple TV).
- Native TV Restrictions: Because navigation commands are not sent to the TV, JubileeTV cannot control anything running directly on the TV's native operating system. This means you cannot use JubileeTV to navigate the TV's built-in home screen, open or control native smart TV apps, or change channels directly via the TV's internal tuner.
