# Overview

Use the Reminders feature to display pre-defined messages on the TV at a specific date and time. This can be anything from a simple daily medication reminder for the TV End User, to a message that automatically tunes the TV to a live sporting event.

# How do I create a Reminder?

From the App home screen, select the Reminders card. From there, tap **Create Personal Reminder** and follow the in-app instructions.

# Types of Reminders

JubileeTV divides Reminders into two categories: **Simple Reminders** and **Reminders with Automated Actions**.

## 1. Simple Reminders

Use a Simple Reminder to let the TV End User know about a task that needs to be done or remind them of an upcoming event.

### Common uses for Simple Reminders include:

- **Daily Medication:** Reminder your loved one to take their pills.
- **Upcoming Birthday:** Remind your loved one of a friend or family member's birthday.
- **Upcoming Visit:** Let your loved one know to expect a visitor today.

### What is shown on a Simple Reminder?

When a Simple Reminder triggers, a message appears on the TV containing the following details:

- **Time and Date:** When the Reminder was triggered.
- **Title Text:** Large text summarizing the reminder (limited to 20 characters).
- **Descriptive Text (optional):** Smaller text providing more details (limited to 75 characters).
- **Dismissal Instructions:** A green check mark with the word "OK" is displayed at the bottom of the message. The user can either press the green check button or the "OK/Select" button on the JubileeTV voice remote to dismiss the message.

### Simple Reminder Parameters

When creating a Simple Reminder, you can customize the following settings:

- **Message Text:** Add your title (required) and descriptive text.
- **Start Date and Time:** Define exactly when the Reminder message appears on the TV.
- **Repeat:** Choose whether the Reminder repeats (e.g., set a medication reminder to go off at 6:00 PM every day).
 - **Repeat End Date:** If your Reminder repeats, you can set it to automatically stop repeating after a specific date.
- **Optional Behaviors:** You can add these optional behaviors to ensure the TV End User notices the Reminder:
 - **Turn on TV:** If the TV is off when the Reminder is sent, JubileeTV can force the TV to turn on.
 - **Play Chime:** Play a gentle audio alert that gradually increases in volume over two minutes. You can customize exactly how long the chime plays before automatically turning off.
- **Auto Dismiss:** Have the Reminder automatically disappear after a set period of time, without requiring the TV End User to press a button.
- **Notify Me:** Receive a notification on your own device when the Reminder is sent and when it is acted upon. You can easily toggle this setting on or off after a Reminder is created. During the initial setup, you will choose one of three default notification behaviors:
 - **Notify only me by default:** "Notify Me" is set to ON for you, but OFF for all of the TV End User's other Contacts.
 - **Notify all contacts by default:** "Notify Me" is set to ON for you and all of the TV End User's other Contacts.
 - **Don't notify any contacts by default:** Notify Me" is set to OFF for everyone (including you).

## 2. Reminders with Automated Actions

Use a Reminder with an Automated Action to automatically **tune to specific content** or **perform a command** when the Reminder triggers.

### Common uses for Reminders with Automated Actions include:

- **Tuning to live content:** Automatically tune to the football game right when it starts.
- **Wake up to music:** Play a song on YouTube every morning for the TV End User to wake up to. *(Note: Requires you to have Roku as a source device and the YouTube app installed on the Roku).*

### Types of Automated Action Reminders

There are three types of Automated Action Reminders to choose from:

- **Yes/No Action:** The message contains a "Yes" and "No" option. If the TV End User selects "Yes," the action is performed. If they select "No," the message is dismissed and the action is not performed.
- **Automatic Action:** The message contains only an "OK" option. When the TV End User acknowledges the Reminder by selecting "OK," the action is performed (there is no option to opt-out).
- **15 Second Automatic Action:** Similar to the Automatic Action Reminder, but with a built-in timer. If no button on the JubileeTV remote is pressed, the action is automatically performed 15 seconds after the Reminder is triggered.

### What actions can be performed?

There are two types of actions that can be triggered:

- **Tune to a channel:** The TV automatically switches to a specific channel. *(Note: Requires one of your source devices to to be a cable/satellite set-top box).*
- **Command:** A [Telescope command](https://docs.getjubileetv.com/telescope#commands) is sent to the TV. For example, you can paste the link of a YouTube video into the command field. When triggered, that specific YouTube video will play on the TV. *(Note: Sharing a YouTube link through a command requires one of your devices to be a Roku and the YouTube app must be installed on the Roku).*

### What is shown on a Reminder with Automated Action?

When a Simple Reminder triggers, a message appears on the TV containing the following details:

- **Time and Date:** When the Reminder was triggered.
- **Title Text:** Large text summarizing the reminder (limited to 20 characters).
- **Descriptive Text (optional):** Smaller text providing more details (limited to 75 characters).
- **Dismissal Instructions:** The icons and text displayed at the bottom of the message will depend on the type of Automated Action you selected:
 - **Yes/No Action:** Displays a red "X" icon with the word "no" underneath, and a green checkmark icon with the word "yes" underneath.
 - **Automatic Action:** Displays a green checkmark icon with the word "yes" underneath.
 - **15-Second Automatic Action:** No icons or text are visible at the bottom of the message. The text on the screen will vary based on the type of Automated Action you selected (i.e., prompting the user to select "Yes/No," "OK," or wait 15 seconds).

### Automatic Action Reminder Parameters

Reminders with Automated Actions utilize the exact same setup parameters (Message Text, Start Date/Time, Repeat, Optional Behaviors) as listed in the [Simple Reminder Parameters](https://docs.getjubileetv.com/reminders#reminder-parameters) section above, with one exception:

- **Auto Dismiss Exception:** If you select the **15-Second Automatic Action Reminder**, the "Auto Dismiss" option is not available. This is because the reminder is already programmed to automatically perform the action and dismiss itself after 15 seconds.

# Passive Mode Limitations

Because Passive Modes limit on-screen interactivity, the only Reminder type available when the system is set to a Passive Mode is the **15-Second Automatic Action Reminder**.

See [JubileeTV Usage Modes](docId\:vc_Oz1fVLHxIwevdS3ilq) for more information on Passive Modes.
